More Veggies

Yay, it's lunchtime! I remembered to bring my lunch today...tabouli lettuce wraps with sliced cucumber and a Stonyfield Strawberry Pomegranate yogurt. It's another busy day at work, but I'm excited that 2 weeks from day we will be on our way home to NC for the first NC State football game of the season and to spend Labor Day weekend with family and friends!
I'm looking forward to my step aerobics class after work...

Starting the Day Green

Last night after my dinner of just veggies, I was left feeling a little hungry, so I had a bowl of Peanut Butter Puffins with Light Vanilla soymilk.

This morning I woke up with a headache, so I made a green smoothie for breakfast. I used 2 cups spinach, 1 banana, 1 cup frozen fruit, 1 cup light vanilla soymilk, 4 tbsp hemp protein powder, and 1 scoop of Amazing Grass. I also stopped by Starbucks on my way into work for an iced coffee with half-&-half and splenda. :)

I have a lot of emails to answer, so I'll see you at lunch...

Change of Plans

When I left work, I wasn't feeling well so I decided to skip working out tonight. Instead I came home and took Zoey for a walk and made some veggies for dinner (I forgot to take a picture - forgive me, I'm new to this blogging thing.) :) I had corn on the cob, sauteed yellow squash, and sliced yellow tomatoes.

Snack

On days when I'm planning to go to spin and Pure Barre (Tuesdays and Thursdays, usually), I don't get home until after 8:30 so I try to eat a snack beforehand - if I don't, I often end up feeling lightheaded. This afternoon, I chose a Cool Mint Chocolate Clif Bar.

Boring Lunch

Ok, so I know I said I wanted to eat less frozen, processed meals but it's a busy day at work and this is the only thing I have at the office since I was in a rush this morning and I forgot to pack the lettuce and tabouli I was PLANNING to use to make lettuce wraps for lunch. (Now you know what is on the agenda for lunch tomorrow.) But if you have to eat a Lean Cuisine, the Butternut Squash Ravioli is one of the better ones (even though the picture isn't great). I'm planning to go to spin class and then Pure Barre tonight, so dinner will be a late one...

Day 1

Good Morning. Let me begin by saying that this is my first attempt at blogging, so if you're reading this, please be patient with me as I learn what the heck I am doing! :)

It's a rainy day here in Lexington, and I was witness to a fender bender on my way in to work today. :( I started my morning with a multi vitamin, as always (I take a Women's One Daily vitamin from Whole Foods). For breakfast I had a container of nonfat plain Oikos greek yogurt mixed with a cup of sliced strawberries, one tbsp ground flax, and 3 tbsp wheat berries, along with an iced coffee with cream and splenda (Starbucks iced coffee is my weakness!)
I'll be back for a lunch recap...

Introduction

Hi, my name is April and I am 29 years old. I am originally from North Carolina, but moved to Lexington, KY with my boyfriend (and our dog, Zoey) almost a year ago. I am starting this blog because in less than 4 months I will turn the big 3-0, I want to be healthier and happier with my body, and I'm realizing as I get older that I'm gaining weight in different places than I used to - and this is NOT a good thing. :) I am one of those "all or nothing" types (I know this is not a good way to be), and if I "fall off the wagon", I have a hard time getting back on track. For example, I'll eat healthy and exercise regularly for a couple of weeks, but then if I overindulge at a party or miss a few days at the gym, I just give up. I actually really enjoy exercising, and I feel so much better when I'm active and eating healthy - that should be enough motivation - but it's so much easier to find other things to do or relax on the couch after a long day at work. I'm hoping this blog will help hold me accountable and change my perspective to realize that it's ok to have a piece of cake or miss a spin class and still reach my goals. I have done Weight Watchers in the past with success, but this time I want to focus on eating more whole foods instead of frozen, processed meals. This is not just an attempt to lose weight - I know that if my body is healthier and stronger, my mind will be as well, and I will be a more confident, happier person. I will be documenting my progress with pictures and by blogging my daily menu, my workouts, as well as my thoughts as I go through this journey.
